Assignment 1 Explorer The Christopher Columbus

While in class, Madam Atee has told us to choose the explorer and why did we chose him as our explorer,so i had choose Christopher Columbus as an the explorer. Why I say that because the Christopher Columbus was an explorer, colonizer, and navigator, born in the Republic of Genoa, in what is today  Northwestern  Italy.  Under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean that led to general European awareness of the American continents. Those voyages, and his efforts to establish permanent settlements in the island of Hispaniola, initiated the process of Spanish colonization, which foreshadowed the general European colonization of what became known as the "New World" . Why I say that the Christopher Columbus is explorer also, he though Columbus was not the first European explorer to reach the Americas ,having been preceded by the Norse expedition led by Leif Ericson in the 11th century, Columbus's voyages led to the first lasting European contact with America, inaugurating a period of European exploration and colonization of foreign lands that lasted for several centuries. They had, therefore, an enormous impact in the historical development of the modern Western world. Columbus himself saw his accomplishments primarily in the light of the spreading of the Christian religion. Therefore, his courage as an explorer has made me choose it as an explorer because he can provide inspiration, in our lives.
